Toast, Jewelry, and a Dare to Succeed
Written By Allie Perry August 1, 2025
I can talk about making jewelry, happily, for days.
But not about the specifics.
If you want someone to teach you the melting point of gold or where a gemstone sits on the Mohs scale of hardness, I'm probably not your girl.
Go hit up google and miss me with those questions.
You can know how to do something without knowing those types of things anyway.
I make great toast.
I have no idea what temperature is needed, or how long specific types of bread need to be held under those sustained temperatures before they turn into toast.
But I know the process, and I know how to recognize when I have achieved my goal.
I'm that way with jewelry making.
I know how to do what I need to do, or figure out the things I don't know, without having the ability to recall specific academic knowledge people think an expert should have.
I have muscle memory and instincts honed over decades of learning my craft, so my hands have a knack for doing the actual work without getting my brain involved.
No, I have different expertise to share.
I want to talk to you about using my hands and risking comfort for joy.
Sometimes that’s the physical pain I experience forging metal, sometimes it’s the emotional toll paid on the roller coaster process of creating and sustaining my own business to share my jewelry with the world.
If you’re a goldsmith, I want to share all of the tricks I've learned from experts before me so those skills aren't lost to time and automated processes. And I want to soak up any of the tips you’re willing to share with me.
No matter what profession you’re in, I want to inspire you to be willing to try and fail, so you can eventually try and succeed.
I want that inspiration to carry into every part of your personal and professional life until it’s ingrained in your mind that failing at a task isn’t a reason to quit- it’s an opportunity to learn and try again, better, smarter, less afraid.
Mostly, I want to encourage you to work and problem solve with the tools you've already collected, the knowledge you’ve already gained, and the courage you’ve already earned.
You don't need the most expensive tools.
You don’t have to have all of the information memorized.
You just need to be willing to trust yourself and take the first step, because mastery doesn’t come from knowing.
It comes from doing.
Every piece of jewelry I make carries this mindset.
Carefully crafted products, imbued with my lived experience and a trust in the fact that I can’t be stopped.
And when you wear my jewelry, you’re wearing that story, too.
But don’t just wear it. Feel it. And maybe even live it.
My jewelry isn’t just an accessory- it’s a challenge.
