Give Gifts People Will Remember For All The Right Reasons

Written By Allie Perry December 29, 2025

A long time ago, I worked for a gigantic (evil) company.

The kind that docked your pay if you clocked in 30 seconds late, but somehow always found a reason to talk to you about work on your unpaid lunch break.

The kind that handed out a .05% pay increase, and a 25% workload increase.

The kind that reduced you to a number.

My manager was a guy we’ll call Bob, because that was his name.

One December, Bob went around asking everyone what their favorite drink was.

I told him I loved Shirley Temples. (Still my favorite, made with ginger ale, thank you very much.)

He said, “No, like what alcohol do you like?

I don’t drink alcohol, and I told him as much.

The week before Christmas, Bob showed up with company gifts.

Wine for Rico. Vodka for Micheal.

And champagne for me.

Not sparkling juice. Not non-alcoholic champagne for the person who doesn’t drink.

Regular alcoholic champagne.

He handed it to me, shrugged, and said, “I know you don’t drink. Merry Christmas!”

He could have spent less and bought me a bottle of grenadine, and I would have been thrilled.

Instead, he asked what I wanted, ignored the answer, and gave me something he knew I wouldn’t use.

Worst. Gift. Ever.

Not because he picked the wrong item. Because he proved he didn’t even care.

That’s the difference between a gift that checks a box and a gift someone actually loves. People don’t remember how much you spent. They remember whether you saw them.

That’s why I make handmade jewelry the way I do. Each piece is meant to be chosen for someone specific, not grabbed because it was easy.

Give a gift that feels personal and thoughtful by shopping here.

Don’t be like Bob.
